About the Druze Community School
Our Arabic school is committed to creating a stimulating and supportive learning
environment. It focuses on building a solid foundation for new learners while developing
the reading, writing, and speaking skills of current students to ensure steady progress.
Our team of dedicated teachers brings both experience and passion to the classroom. Using
interactive and engaging methods, they not only teach the Arabic language but also inspire
students, making the learning experience both enjoyable and effective.
A Look Back
The Druze Community School (DCS) was established in year 2021 and serves children from
the Druze community. To be eligible for enrollment, at least one parent must be of Druze
background.
In its first year (2021-22), the school operated online, with teachers generously volunteering
their time. In 2022-2023, the DCS joined the International & Indigenous Languages Program
(IILP) through the Continuing Education Department within the Ottawa-Carleton District
School Board (OCDSB). By the 2024–2025 school year, fully in-person classes were launched
at Sawmill Creek Elementary School.
Programs and Curriculum
The school has currently 5 classes from Kindergarten through Grade 8. A link to purchase
the Arabic books is provided to the parents by the OCDSB. These books form the foundation
of the curriculum used to teach students with little or no prior knowledge of Arabic.
Schedule & Location
The DCS classes run on Saturday mornings from 9:30 – 12:00 pm. at Sawmill Creek
Elementary School, 3400 D'Aoust Ave, Gloucester, ON K1T 1R5.
Teachers and Staff
All DCS teachers are members of the Druze faith. The DCS board was originally formed by
members of the CDSO Ottawa Chapter Board at the time of the school’s founding in 2021.
The DCS has its own operational independence under the umbrella of the CDSO Ottawa
Chapter.
We currently have 5 teachers and 2 supply teachers registered with the OCDSB.
Some students who started at the school and have since progressed to Grades 9 and 10
have continued as volunteers, supporting younger students in class and assisting with DCS
activities throughout the year.
Registration Information
The OCDSB recognized the DCS as an independent school. It provides the school each year
with its own registration link and dedicated classroom spaces.
School registrations run during the month of August. Classes start in the first or second
week of September and ends the second week of June. Registration is always open for new
students.
Classes are free for Ontario Students. There is a registration fee for out-of-province
students. The full fees are: $180 for one child, $280 for two siblings, and $300 for three
children. The CDSO Ottawa Chapter Board usually covers up to half of the registration fee
for out-of-province students, subject to their discretion.
